Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When Cesare Loreto fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sorci Viola's protests and gave Cesare Loreto a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Sorci Viola's Cesare Loreto got a free kick in the 10th minute. Edoardo Meo charged in rather forcefully in the 11th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Edoardo Meo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The Sorci Viola fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Armando Bonelli should have stopped the shot. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alvise Urbani to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Armando Bonelli in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alvise Urbani, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Armando Bonelli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edoardo Meo was shown his second yellow card after 62 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Armando Bonelli having to interfere. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Luis Andino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Armando Bonelli breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
