Julio Montes hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. Tomas Berganza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Oswaldo Murillo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 5th minute Isidoro Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oswaldo Murillo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 8th minute Tomas Berganza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oswaldo Murillo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Tomas Berganza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Stig-Ove Lundblad fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kosteños's protests and gave Stig-Ove Lundblad a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Panama booed when Kosteños was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stig-Ove Lundblad didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcos Cotilla took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Qerim Shala, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Abraham Alguacil made a great header on Panama's corner, it was just that Kosteños's Oswaldo Murillo managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 23rd minute Isidoro Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oswaldo Murillo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Isidoro Sarmiento sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Oswaldo Murillo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isidoro Sarmiento in the 35th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Qerim Shala in the 36th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kosteños's Oswaldo Murillo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Berganza in the 38th minute of play. Tomas Berganza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Kosteños booed when Panama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Miguel Miralles didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Matthew Garrido fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Panama's protests and gave Matthew Garrido a yellow card for diving instead. Abraham Alguacil fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oswaldo Murillo having to interfere. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomas Berganza to make the kick off. The corner led Panama's Abraham Alguacil to fire away a dangerous shot which Oswaldo Murillo despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After having played for 66 minutes, Izydor Nakonieczny managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kosteños's supporters crossed their fingers, but Izydor Nakonieczny was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 68 minutes, Timoteo Abeijon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kosteños and the Panama players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Panama booed when Kosteños was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Timoteo Abeijon didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dylan Sarmiento's late challenge caught a Kosteños's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
