Régis de Queirós showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Luke Clist to strike the kick off in the second half. After having played for 53 minutes, Leonardo Donato managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Palmeiras's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leonardo Donato was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Régis de Queirós having to interfere. Agustín Saelices received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Régis de Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 60th minute of the match, but Régis de Queirós made a huge save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Waldemar Jacinto during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luke Clist went, in the 82nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Leonardo Donato stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Leonardo Donato tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Daniel Zorita's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 94thth minute, Régis de Queirós skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. When the referee blew the final whistle, Palmeiras could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
