Thanks to some nice moves Mario Fernandino could shoot a difficult shot in the 23rd minute, which Gil Carioca however easily saved by the left post. If Eduardo Fontirroig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 31st minute, Mario Fernandino got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Gil Carioca made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alfonso de la Cruz in the 40th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.
