With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ariel Cristante prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Benjamin Liher recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hector Covarrubias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ariel Cristante having to interfere. In the 27th minute, Guaberto Onofre hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Hector Covarrubias's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ariel Cristante was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. Jaime Pardo kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Jaime Pardo's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 43rdth minute, Ariel Cristante skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 45th minute of the match Benjamin Liher shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jacobo Nores showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jaime Pardo to strike the kick off in the second half. Ariel Cristante showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Primitivo Escribano in the 52nd minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Simon Lehen in the 57th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jacobo Nores saved Paraguay from getting behind. When Baltasar Ostots fell near the penalty area in the 60th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ejército Soviético's protests and gave Baltasar Ostots a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Ejército Soviético's Baltasar Ostots got a free kick in the 60th minute. Ariel Cristante didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jaime Pardo went, in the 61st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. If Jaime Pardo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ariel Cristante came out of the goal in the 72nd minute to try and stop a shot by Paraguay's Hector Covarrubias. But to his dismay, Hector Covarrubias quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. If Jaime Pardo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Ejército Soviético's zone, Hector Covarrubias stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ariel Cristante came out of the goal and Hector Covarrubias tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 81st match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Primitivo Escribano to maneuver through the defense. Anacleto Guillen's late challenge caught a Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
