Celestino Eli might have been able to make a better finish in the 3rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joaquin Gayoso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Celestino Eli ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Maximiliano Petrigai managed to get in a good position for a shot. HFA FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Maximiliano Petrigai was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joaquin Gayoso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Joaquin Gayoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Celestino Eli in the 6th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Celestino Eli in the 7th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Celestino Eli in the 24th minute of play. Alberto Gisbert hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. Joaquin Gayoso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Celestino Eli, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 28 minutes into the match, Celestino Eli had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. Uruguay's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Celestino Eli was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. When HFA FC's Celestino Eli in the 34th minute got a chance for a shot 34th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Uruguay's goalie prevented a goal. 39 minutes into the game, Celestino Eli cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. Joaquin Gayoso was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Maximiliano Petrigai ran back to his position shaking his head. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-4 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Celestino Eli was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Bruno Beldad hit a great ball. In the 52nd minute of the match, Celestino Eli tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Joaquin Gayoso saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Joaquin Gayoso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Celestino Eli's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. In the 63rd minute of the match HFA FC got a corner. Uruguay's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Maximiliano Petrigai ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on HFA FC's corner Gonzalo Tanio fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Joaquin Gayoso quite easily take care of the ball. If Jaime Cazalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joaquin Gayoso came out of the goal in the 70th minute to try and stop a shot by HFA FC's Celestino Eli. But to his dismay, Celestino Eli quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-5. Cleto Gonza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maximiliano Escribano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Uruguay's Arturo Carvallo got a free kick in the 74th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Uruguay's zone, Celestino Eli stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joaquin Gayoso came out of the goal and Celestino Eli tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 79th minute Francisco Seco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cleto Gonza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arturo Carvallo hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. Celestino Eli could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 82nd minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. After some careless play in the Uruguay defense, Celestino Eli kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. The Uruguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joaquin Gayoso should have stopped the shot. After having played for 96 minutes, Celestino Eli managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. HFA FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Celestino Eli was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Uruguay lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
