Peru's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 28th play minute George Lucas came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Rolando Noboa. 2-0. George Lucas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rolando Noboa having to interfere. Daniël Isla made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Milagros Fraga in the 38th minute of play. Filomeno Bladi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Rolando Noboa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Julian Murillo was the one to do the kick off. The throw-in from Alfredo Tohias in the 51st minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Peru's Joaquin Prats.
