After having played for 3 minutes, Hector Covarrubias managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hector Covarrubias was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hector Covarrubias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Fábio Bezerra having to interfere. Afonsinho Costa's late challenge caught a Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Afonsinho Costa helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Phoenix Fc's Afonsinho Costa got a free kick in the 7th minute. After 9 minutes, Adhemar Teles mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Phoenix Fc and the Paraguay players grew even worse after the yellow card. Paraguay's Jacobo Nores played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adhemar Teles in the 11th minute of play. In the 13th minute Jaime Pardo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fábio Bezerra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jaime Pardo succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 13th playminute. Luís Fábio Bezerra made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jaime Pardo in the 15th minute. 17 minutes had been played when some careless play by Phoenix Fc's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Jaime Pardo was slow to take the kick. During this time Paraguay's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Paraguay's Jose Sanz to fire away a dangerous shot which Luís Fábio Bezerra despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. A collision led to Phoenix Fc getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Afonsinho Costa hit a great ball. The throw-in from Ricardo Paraíba in the 22nd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Paraguay's Primitivo Escribano. The supporters of Phoenix Fc booed when Paraguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hector Covarrubias didn't get a good kick on the ball. Adhemar Teles received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Jacobo Nores tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Paraguay's Jaime Pardo in the 34th minute got a chance for a shot 34th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Phoenix Fc's goalie prevented a goal. After having played for 45 minutes, Haroldo Brito managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Phoenix Fc's supporters crossed their fingers, but Haroldo Brito was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Haroldo Brito in the 47th minute of play forced Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Jacobo Nores came out of the goal in the 51st minute to try and stop a shot by Phoenix Fc's Haroldo Brito. But to his dismay, Haroldo Brito quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. In the 57th minute, Jaime Pardo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 65 minutes into the game, Ivan Prats was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Paraguay's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Phoenix Fc the free kick. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Ivan Prats got a free kick in the 65th minute. A collision led to Phoenix Fc getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Afonsinho Costa hit a great ball. When Xavier Zoido fell near the penalty area in the 71st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Paraguay's protests and gave Xavier Zoido a yellow card for diving instead. Xavier Zoido kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. Ronaldo Camargo was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 72nd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Alan Campos hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Haroldo Brito's late challenge caught a Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. Paraguay's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Adhemar Teles 82 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-2. After 87 played minutes Phoenix Fc got a freekick which was hit by Ricardo Paraíba. The crowd rose to their feet as Phoenix Fc's Adhemar Teles slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Jacobo Nores. That made the score 1-3 after 88 minutes of play. 94 minutes into the match, Phoenix Fc's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime Pardo came free, but Luís Fábio Bezerra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Phoenix Fc's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
