Gonzalo Oliverios's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 22nd minute, Efrain Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Eliseo Noboa might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Andres Machado. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eliseo Noboa ran back to his position shaking his head. Lautaro Puig could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Andres Machado made a huge save. When Hugo Ferrant fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Hugo Ferrant a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Hugo Ferrant hit a great ball.

In the 51st minute, Eliseo Noboa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andres Machado having to interfere. Oliverio Mazo hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Eliseo Noboa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Costa Rica's supporters rose to their feet, but Eliseo Noboa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Andres Machado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ruben Quilino kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. After 69 played minutes, Costa Rica's Efrain Moruga shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Andres Machado came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Costa Rica reached it. In the 76th minute Lautaro Puig shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andres Machado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 77th minute of the match Costa Rica got a corner. FMArgentina's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Eliseo Noboa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Costa Rica's supporters rose to their feet, but Eliseo Noboa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
