Florentin Gougeon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ciriaco Hernando having to interfere. Ciriaco Hernando showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Florentin Gougeon, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Santiago Cañizares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mauro Otsoa in the 19th minute of the match. Valencia C.F.'s goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 40 minutes had been played when some careless play by Vänge IF's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Al Capone was slow to take the kick. During this time Valencia C.F.'s players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Aziz Gustaman almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Vänge IF's Ciriaco Hernando did a great save. Ciriaco Hernando took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Florentin Gougeon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

Vänge IF made a substitution. Ramiro James replaced Bruno Giordani. After 54 played minutes Vänge IF got a freekick which was hit by Arrigo Di Mattia. Ciriaco Hernando made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Florentin Gougeon in the 55th minute of play. 55 minutes into the match, Vänge IF's goal looked a bit too open when Florentin Gougeon came free, but Ciriaco Hernando reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 56 minutes into the game, Markus Albäck recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Santiago Cañizares. Markus Albäck showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-2. In the 95th minute Florentin Gougeon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ciriaco Hernando saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

Valencia C.F.'s supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
