The audience thought a goal was coming when Reynaldo Lizer got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jairo Abarca showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Patricio Costa in the 16th minute of the match. Reynaldo Lizer struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Dinamo Tirana. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 21st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jairo Abarca prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 24 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Alex Chicote. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When Teodor Caldueño came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Dinamo Tirana fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Teodor Caldueño couldn't finish the play. In the 42nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rigoberto Mina lost his temper 45 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 45 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Venezuela! The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Dinamo Tirana's Aresti Abel was substituted for Cesario Abastas. Venezuela's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
