Peru's Rolando Noboa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 3rd minute of the match, managed to save Peru from getting a goal against them. Rolando Noboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Christiano Ronaldo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Unione Sportiva's Kimon Yfantis got a free kick in the 7th minute. In the 9th minute Christiano Ronaldo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 11th minute, Unione Sportiva's Christiano Ronaldo ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Rolando Noboa. Rolando Noboa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Christiano Ronaldo in the 15th minute of play. Peru's Eliseo Mina quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Carles Cannavaro, made in the 20th minute of the game. 23 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Christiano Ronaldo came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 30th minute, Christiano Ronaldo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 32 minutes into the game, Kimon Yfantis was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Unione Sportiva's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Peru the free kick. After 40 played minutes Peru got a freekick which was hit by Alonso Berganza. The Unione Sportiva fans' excitement grew in the 43rd match minute when Unione Sportiva's Christiano Ronaldo looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Julian Murillo to make the kick off. Christiano Ronaldo scored 4-0 in the 56th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rolando Noboa, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 60 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Christiano Ronaldo came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 64th minute, Alonso Berganza hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Carles Cannavaro struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Rolando Noboa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Unione Sportiva. 72 minutes into the match, Unione Sportiva's Christiano Ronaldo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rolando Noboa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Cassiano Vilas Boas kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Unione Sportiva's Fernado Alves proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save Unione Sportiva from getting a goal against them. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Fernado Alves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 85th minute of play. 87 minutes into the match, Christiano Ronaldo notched a goal, 5-0, to the right of Peru's Rolando Noboa. Rolando Noboa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Peru's Rafael Gallo was substituted for Julian Murillo. In the 94th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alonso Berganza to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Peru's Eliseo Alcocer got a free kick in the 96th minute.
