The audience thought a goal was coming when Célio Mangueira got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 14 minutes into the match, Tomas Illescas had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Wellington Montenegro. Joinville Esporte Clube's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomas Illescas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 21st minute Venezuela were awarded a corner. Tomas Illescas went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Venezuela's Tomas Illescas to fire away a dangerous shot which Wellington Montenegro despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Benê de Azevedo hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. In the 29th minute Célio Mangueira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With an all-out effort, Joinville Esporte Clube's Jonathan Ferrant threw himself towards the right post 32 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Deivid Vaz, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 32nd minute, Joinville Esporte Clube's Célio Mangueira ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Jonathan Ferrant. Jonathan Ferrant yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. In the 39th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wellington Montenegro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wellington Montenegro didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Patricio Costa went, in the 42nd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. Rigoberto Mina kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. Joinville Esporte Clube's supporters stood up full of expectation in the 49th minute of the game, when Célio Mangueira after an extraordinary solo performance found himself with a golden opportunity in front of Venezuela's goal. Célio Mangueira was unfortunally a little to anxious and the ball went outside the goal. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Wellington Montenegro having to make a save. In the 56th minute, Benê de Azevedo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Wellington Montenegro in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Benê de Azevedo kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Fausto Aguiar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wellington Montenegro came out of the goal in the 68th minute to try and stop a shot by Venezuela's Joshua Secada. But to his dismay, Joshua Secada quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-3. In the 76th minute Gonçalo Catarinense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 77 minutes, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patricio Costa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Célio Mangueira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 97th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jose Correa to maneuver through the defense.
