After having played for 3 minutes, Hector Covarrubias managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hector Covarrubias was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 4 minutes into the match, Jaime Pardo dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Armindo Bettencourt, 1-0. Joaquim Carvalhais's late challenge caught a Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Joaquim Carvalhais helped the player get up and apologised. After 11 played minutes Rua da Pinga got a freekick which was hit by Joaquim Carvalhais. In the 12th match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Diego Tenorio to maneuver through the defense. Hector Covarrubias who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 15thth minute tested the skills of Armindo Bettencourt when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 17th minute, Paraguay's Jaime Pardo dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. Jaime Pardo received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Armindo Bettencourt came out and tried to block the shot, but Jaime Pardo slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 20th minute. Jaime Pardo scored 4-0 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Armindo Bettencourt, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 27th minute, Elias Quadros left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Rua da Pinga fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-1. Jaime Pardo came free with the goalkeeper in the 31st minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Armindo Bettencourt could save by the left post. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Ivan Prats got a free kick in the 33rd minute. 35 minutes into the match, Rua da Pinga's goalkeeper Armindo Bettencourt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Primitivo Escribano. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jaime Pardo in the 40th minute of play forced Rua da Pinga's goalkeeper Armindo Bettencourt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Jaime Pardo made the kick off in the second half. Jose Sanz made in the 67th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Rua da Pinga's Joaquim Carvalhais. Armindo Bettencourt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime Pardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 77 minutes into the game, Paraguay's Primitivo Escribano nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Armindo Bettencourt made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 7-1. Armindo Bettencourt came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by Paraguay's Jaime Pardo. But to his dismay, Jaime Pardo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 8-1. Homero Cerqueira hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Jaime Pardo, 85 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Joaquim Carvalhais kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match.
