53 minutes into the game, Sebastian Verón cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Julio Vera was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Radomil Mietus in the 57th minute of play. Pastor Firman made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 59th minute.
