Bartosz Skikiewicz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 88th minute. In the 95th minute, Mario Kempes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. When the referee blew the final whistle, Bucaneiros could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
