With a little luck, Club Deportes La Serena's Tobías Quilempan got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 47th minute, which Tobías Quilempan however easily saved by the left post. After the first half Club Deportes La Serena were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. In the 59th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 62nd minute of play forced Club Deportes La Serena's goalkeeper Tobías Quilempan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Antonio Arias got a free kick in the 63rd minute. After having played for 80 minutes, Soso Cheishvili managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Deportes La Serena's supporters crossed their fingers, but Soso Cheishvili was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 83rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Club Deportes La Serena's goalkeeper Tobías Quilempan, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 86th match minute, Club Deportes La Serena was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wim Zuidam to maneuver through the defense. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Soso Cheishvili tried to sneak it across the goal line. Daniel Zorita's late challenge caught a Club Deportes La Serena's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Daniel Zorita helped the player get up and apologised. Daniel Zorita kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edgardo Garzo in the 93rd minute of the match. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
