Jose Chilavert showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bernardo Estevez in the 10th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Los Hornos's Eustaquio Omero got a free kick in the 15th minute. Valentin Lesardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Leopoldo Petri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Bernardo Estevez blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jose Chilavert having to make a save. 27 minutes into the match, Ilulea FC's goal looked a bit too open when Bernardo Estevez came free, but Jose Chilavert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Leopoldo Petri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valentin Lesardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 39thth minute of the game Bernardo Estevez who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ilulea FC's Jose Chilavert was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The corner led Los Hornos's Marciano Tanio to fire away a dangerous shot which Jose Chilavert despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Menno Zuurman's late challenge caught a Los Hornos's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Menno Zuurman helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Los Hornos booed when Ilulea FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Menno Zuurman didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Los Hornos made a substitution. Melchor Raymond replaced Wilfredo Innocenzio. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Valentin Lesardo was the one to do the kick off. Jose Chilavert stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bernardo Estevez's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. Leandro Guib received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Jose Chilavert tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bernardo Estevez couldn't finish the play. Los Hornos's Fabian Valery managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Arnulfo Chano in the 95 minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Los Hornos's zone, Hernan Herrera stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leopoldo Petri came out of the goal and Hernan Herrera tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 98th match minute, Los Hornos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Humberto Iyan to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valentin Lesardo in the 100th minute of play forced Los Hornos's goalkeeper Leopoldo Petri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The score was 0-0 after 90 minutes, which forced the match into extra-time.

With new strength the players walked out on the field for the first half of overtime. Eustaquio Omero in Los Hornos was the one to initiate the kick off. With his leg Jose Chilavert managed to avoid a goal in the 108thth minute, when Los Hornos's Eustaquio Omero fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After 110 minutes of play, Los Hornos's Bernardo Estevez made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jose Chilavert was left in no man's land by his defense there! For all the effort they put into the match, the Ilulea FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Los Hornos.
