An unexpectedly hard shot by Ciro Fata in the 18th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Tor-Ivar Kalland came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Valla Fc fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tor-Ivar Kalland couldn't finish the play. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 1-0 became the score in the 23rd minute when Tor-Ivar Kalland elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

Venezuela succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Valla Fc had controlled the match.
