Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bieito Villaurreta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Evelio Antoniano in the 22nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paulo Laurentzi, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. Agustín Saelices recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Criciúma Esporte Clube's Evelio Antoniano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 45th minute of play. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Paulo Laurentzi in the 78th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. In the 82nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Zenon Zapolski during the 84th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Zenon Zapolski kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Camilo Gisbert hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. After 94 minutes of play Criciúma Esporte Clube's Zenon Zapolski was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground.
