Uruguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Camilo Franco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Timoteo Galsino during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Kiaxi FC's Rene Fernendo got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Joaquin Gayoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Placido Gervaso, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Bogdan Biraga lost his temper 41 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. A collision led to Kiaxi FC getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Bogdan Biraga hit a great ball. Uruguay's Jaime Cazalla got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 46th minute, Uruguay's Maximiliano Escribano dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

In the 52nd minute, Camilo Franco got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 55 minutes of play, Uruguay's Alberto Gisbert made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Rui Patrício made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1.
