Tauro Camero kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 12th minute. Evelio Antoniano didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 16th minute of play forced Criciúma Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Evelio Antoniano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo Laurentzi in the 24th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Paulo Laurentzi kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. 35 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Laurentzi came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Criciúma Esporte Clube's Evelio Antoniano got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. 38 minutes into the match, Criciúma Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Evelio Antoniano had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. In the 86th minute, Vasile Curagãu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 88 minutes into the match, Criciúma Esporte Clube's Paulo Laurentzi sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Felix Montenegro in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Evelio Antoniano saved Criciúma Esporte Clube from getting behind. Although Ecuador had been in control for most of the match, Criciúma Esporte Clube still came away with the win.
