In the 7th minute the ball was on its way in behind Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Joaquin Gayoso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Henk Veerman's shot from short distance in the 12th minute. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Arturo Carvallo hit a great ball. Çakır Alyakut made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Francisco Seco in the 15th minute of play. In the 21st minute, Maximiliano Escribano left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Uruguay fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. The supporters of 1930 Bafraspor booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Covarrubias didn't get a good kick on the ball. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rıdvan Balıkçı in the 47th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 6-1.

The wind increased when Francisco Seco made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute the ball was on its way in behind 1930 Bafraspor's goalkeeper Çakır Alyakut, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Joaquin Gayoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Martin Johansson in the 62nd minute of the match. After 63 minutes Uruguay's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Thierry Hermans who took care of the corner kick. When Kevin Carballal fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Uruguay's protests and gave Kevin Carballal a yellow card for diving instead. Uruguay's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 10-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rıdvan Balıkçı in the 85th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Joaquin Gayoso saved Uruguay from getting behind. 90 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Martin Johansson came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 92 played minutes 1930 Bafraspor got a freekick which was hit by Ignacy Sroka. Uruguay's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
