Gaztea Regalado hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. A collision led to Criciúma Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 20 minutes play. Vasile Curagãu hit a great ball. Evelio Antoniano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 20th minute of play. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bieito Villaurreta in the 22nd minute of play. Evelio Antoniano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 26th minute. When the match had gone on for 26 minutes, Cristian Sancho took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Evelio Antoniano to make any attempt to save it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Evelio Antoniano in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Agustín Saelices's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Evelio Antoniano read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 34th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Laurentzi in the 37th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Criciúma Esporte Clube getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Zenon Zapolski hit a great ball. Evelio Antoniano was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 39th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Daniel Zorita. The supporters of Criciúma Esporte Clube booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gisbert didn't get a good kick on the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. Evelio Antoniano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The corner ended in Felix Montenegro almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Criciúma Esporte Clube's Evelio Antoniano did a great save. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo Laurentzi in the 53rd minute of play. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 59th minute of the match, Bieito Villaurreta got a very nice opportunity to score, but Julio Vera was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Bieito Villaurreta sent off a good shot on target. Julio Vera made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Camilo Gisbert hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. 73 minutes into the match, Bieito Villaurreta notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gaztea Regalado helped the player get up and apologised. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Camilo Gisbert during the 93rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Camilo Gisbert hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. Paulo Laurentzi hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. Criciúma Esporte Clube succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Ecuador had controlled the match.
