A hard shot 27 in the game by Hílton Travassos from a close distance when the talented Jacobo Nores managed to make a qualified save. Paraguay's players were relieved. Hector Covarrubias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hílton do Valle having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Paraguay's zone, Narciso Pereira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jacobo Nores came out of the goal and Narciso Pereira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 40 minutes into the match, Paraguay's goal looked a bit too open when Hílton Travassos came free, but Jacobo Nores reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 41 played minutes Esporte Clube Italva got a freekick which was hit by Maurício Macedo. Ivan Prats hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hílton Travassos to make the kick off. Jacobo Nores stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hílton Travassos's shot from short distance in the 58th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jaime Pardo during the 67th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 67th minute, Jaime Pardo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 77 played minutes, Esporte Clube Italva's Narciso Pereira shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jacobo Nores came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Esporte Clube Italva reached it. In the 83rd minute, Hílton Travassos made a precise shot to the right of Jacobo Nores. Paraguay's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. In the 89th minute, Jaime Pardo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 92nd minute, Paraguay's Primitivo Escribano dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. Hector Covarrubias struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Hílton do Valle didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Paraguay. Esporte Clube Italva succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Paraguay had controlled the match.
