Cassius Byrne's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mickaël Maris read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 11th minute of play. USA's Marco Day played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Laércio Penha in the 18th minute of play. A collision led to Nova Iguaçu MZFC getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Edu Vaz hit a great ball. USA's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Cassius Byrne in the 22nd minute. Mickaël Maris was a little too slow when Monty Rogers got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 23rd minute. The score was now 1-2. USA's Cassius Byrne was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 28th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Zach Harrison could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Mickaël Maris made a huge save. USA were furious when Koby Fletcher was red carded, 36 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 35th minute of the game. One of USA:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Nova Iguaçu MZFC:s goal. 43 minutes into the match, Laércio Penha notched a goal, 2-4, to the right of USA's Marco Day. Marco Day was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Laércio Penha in the 48th minute got a chance for a shot 48th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye USA's goalie prevented a goal. The USA players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Nova Iguaçu MZFC were winning 2-4.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Monty Rogers stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Edward Mcdonald managed to get in a good position for a shot. USA's supporters rose to their feet, but Edward Mcdonald was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mickaël Maris breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Laércio Penha got a free kick in the 75th minute. USA made a substitution. Sam Campbell replaced Cassius Byrne. After 76 played minutes Nova Iguaçu MZFC got a freekick which was hit by Laércio Penha. After a rather tough play, Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Luiz Fábio de Medeiros got a free kick in the 83rd minute.
