Abelardo Fonso took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 18th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dante Lacasa. Mexico's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 20 minutes into the match, Kamer Hammer notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Mexico's Dante Lacasa. Dante Lacasa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Söncke Gärtner was out of position in the 22 minute of play, and Lautaro Mancebo capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. In the 42nd minute Gioiese Calcio were awarded a corner. Abelardo Fonso went to the cornerflag to take it. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Joel Gaona stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Söncke Gärtner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 51st minute of play. Söncke Gärtner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lautaro Mancebo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 57th minute the ball was on its way in behind Gioiese Calcio's goalkeeper Söncke Gärtner, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Mexico were awarded a corner in the 59th minute after Gioiese Calcio's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Joel Gaona took the corner. The corner ended in Luca Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Gioiese Calcio's Söncke Gärtner did a great save. Lautaro Mancebo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Söncke Gärtner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Gaona in the 64th minute of play. After 66 played minutes Gioiese Calcio got a freekick which was hit by Maarek Ratas. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Arnulfo Savier during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The Gioiese Calcio fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Söncke Gärtner should have stopped the shot. Arturo Admon hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. The referee ignored Gioiese Calcio's protests and gave Arturo Admon a yellow card for diving instead. After 92 played minutes Gioiese Calcio got a freekick which was hit by Arturo Admon. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Mexico had played much better football throughout.
