A collision led to Peru getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Joaquin Prats hit a great ball. In the 42nd minute Daniele Bevilacqua shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pär Are made an important save on a dangerous shot by Milagros Fraga in the 46th minute. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Julian Murillo was the one to do the kick off. If Julian Murillo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Peru's Antonio Tenorio was substituted for Luz Tejedor. Peru made a substitution. Eliseo Alcocer replaced Moises Gayoso. In the 87th minute Rafael Gallo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pär Are saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
