Spectators: 44 (Terracing: 34, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Borussia Dortmund's Stasio Tyszka started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Kajetan Banan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kajetan Banan in the 6th minute of play. Zenon Sroka hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Axel Tasis got free with Radomir Olszewski in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Stasio Tyszka kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. Patryk Zima recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 28 minutes into the game, Patryk Zima cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 30th minute, Patryk Zima hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Borussia Dortmund's Kajetan Banan got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 35th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Borussia Dortmund. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Axel Tasis was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Borussia Dortmund was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Janusz Miecznikowski didn't get a good kick on the ball. Radomir Olszewski took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseo Noboa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lautaro Puig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Radomir Olszewski tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Abel Carballo's late challenge caught a Borussia Dortmund's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel Carballo helped the player get up and apologised. In the 61st match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abel Carballo to maneuver through the defense. Benito Sanz was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Marcin Kisiel. After a defensive mix-up in Borussia Dortmund's zone, Axel Tasis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Radomir Olszewski came out of the goal and Axel Tasis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 66 minutes, Lautaro Puig mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the Borussia Dortmund players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexander Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Radomil Gollob's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Benito Sanz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 71st minute of play. After 79 played minutes Borussia Dortmund got a freekick which was hit by Ludomir Pachucki. When Kajetan Banan came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Borussia Dortmund fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kajetan Banan couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Tasis in the 90th minute of play forced Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Radomir Olszewski to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Borussia Dortmund eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
