An unexpectedly hard shot by Ðuza Stopa in the 81st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador were furious when Felix Montes was red carded, 85 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. After 85 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle.
