Börje Fagerberg could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Best Man in the 32nd minute. In the 34th minute of the match Djurgårdens IF got a corner. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 37th minute. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Börje Fagerberg tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 41st minute Pankracy Oborski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mark Nilsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The referee gave Ecuador a penalty, 58 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Daniel Zorita, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Djurgårdens IF's Mark Nilsson. 0-2. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Herman Litmanen during the 62nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 62 played minutes Djurgårdens IF got a freekick which was hit by Herman Litmanen. In the 63rd minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mark Nilsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Börje Fagerberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 65th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Pankracy Oborski managed to get in a good position for a shot. Djurgårdens IF's supporters rose to their feet, but Pankracy Oborski was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pankracy Oborski in the 81st minute of play. Pankracy Oborski hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro got a free kick in the 85th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Djurgårdens IF's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mark Nilsson came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Camilo Gisbert hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. Mark Nilsson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 98th minute. The Djurgårdens IF fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Ecuador were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
