Aquilino Castelo Branco ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Aquilino Castelo Branco almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Vaios Vourtzoumis struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Keszi Athletic. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hugó Révész's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. Felix Montenegro who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 19thth minute tested the skills of Claudinho Taffarel when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Claudinho Taffarel in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Claudinho Taffarel having to interfere. Primitivo Andino got a throw-in 28 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Daniel Zorita. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vaios Vourtzoumis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Claudinho Taffarel in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 47 minutes, Hugó Révész managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Keszi Athletic's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hugó Révész was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Keszi Athletic made a substitution. Sabin Calderon replaced Anton Kutnjak. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Hugó Révész received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hugó Révész could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hugó Révész in the 58th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Claudinho Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Keszi Athletic's Márton Lengyel was substituted for Özkan İlhan. The corner led to Ecuador's Felix Montes getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 66th minute of play forced Keszi Athletic's goalkeeper Claudinho Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 68th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. One of Ecuador:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Keszi Athletic:s goal. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Ecuador lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
