In the 25th match minute, Vejbystrand was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lars Bergqvist to maneuver through the defense. After 26 played minutes Vejbystrand got a freekick which was hit by Kennet Sävström. A collision led to Vejbystrand getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.

Vejbystrand made a substitution. Joachim Anselius replaced Bernt Nordlund. Vejbystrand's Harald Ennegren was substituted for Moisés Queiroga. The Vejbystrand fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. Sílvio Luís Faria sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. Bengt-Rune Groth charged in rather forcefully in the 89th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bengt-Rune Groth the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Mexico's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
