In the 28th minute of the match, Dorin Doroftei got a very nice opportunity to score, but Julio Vera was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Fc Metalu Bogdan Voda MM's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Tanek Gondek in the 30th minute. When Felix Montenegro came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Felix Montenegro couldn't finish the play. 34 minutes into the match, Fc Metalu Bogdan Voda MM's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Iustin Pandrea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The corner led Ecuador's Agustín Saelices to fire away a dangerous shot which Iustin Pandrea despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Iustin Pandrea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
