But to his dismay, Joel Gaona quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Farid Mondragón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 34th minute of the match. Sid Chadwick's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 38thth minute, Dante Lacasa skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. C. A. Independiente's Farid Mondragón played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 48th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

After a rather tough play, C. A. Independiente's Melvin Ruffin got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Through an outstanding action, after 56 minutes, Farid Mondragón successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 92nd minute, Erberk Müftüoğlu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kerry Sellers in the 96th minute of play. Mexico were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
