After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Manoel Couto in the 82nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 84th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Arias to maneuver through the defense. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
