An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 17th minute of play forced RWDM's goalkeeper Tony Vandenberge to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20th minute of the game Reemy Van Gorpt made a throw-in which Ritchie Kerkhofs played forward. When RWDM's Sylvan Van der Willeghem in the 21st minute got a chance for a shot 21st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The supporters of RWDM booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Illescas to strike the kick off in the second half. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. RWDM had played much better football throughout.
