But to his dismay, Lautaro Martinez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dibag Martinez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 15th minute of play. After 17 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dibag Martinez was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 21st minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dibag Martinez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to La Scaloneta getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Cristian Romero hit a great ball. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dibag Martinez read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 37th minute of play forced La Scaloneta's goalkeeper Dibag Martinez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Cristian Romero fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored La Scaloneta's protests and gave Cristian Romero a yellow card for diving instead. In the 39th minute, one of La Scaloneta:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for La Scaloneta. In the 41st minute there was a penalty for Ecuador. Daniel Zorita stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Dibag Martinez. 1-3. The supporters of La Scaloneta booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 46 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Leandro Paredes who took care of the corner kick. Leandro Paredes made a great header on La Scaloneta's corner, it was just that Ecuador's Julio Vera managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 47th minute, Cristian Sancho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lautaro Martinez in the 48th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. La Scaloneta's Dibag Martinez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 72nd minute of the match, managed to save La Scaloneta from getting a goal against them. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Dibag Martinez in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 89th minute, Ángel-Fabián Di María hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 92ndth minute of the game Julián Álvarez who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Daniel Zorita came free with the goalkeeper in the 95th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Dibag Martinez could save by the left post.
