The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After 45 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Jesus Carvallo. Higino Fontes missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 47 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Ricardo Zorita right hand side. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Moises Fernandino made a kick off. Dário Aveiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 56th minute of the match, but Ricardo Zorita made a huge save. Lorenzo Yepes hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. The El Salvador players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
