Costa Rica's Benito Sanz tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Clemente Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eliseo Noboa in the 11th minute of the match. Umberto Moura received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Célio Matorin in the 16th minute of the match. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when MarquinhosEC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guto de Toledo didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alfredo Loyola during the 21st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Clemente Varela came out of the goal in the 22nd minute to try and stop a shot by Costa Rica's Axel Tasis. But to his dismay, Axel Tasis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Ulisses Carioca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Zé Carlos Barbosa went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Célio Matorin in the 34th minute of play. After 37 minutes of play, Costa Rica's Aaron Alcocer made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Clemente Varela was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ulisses Carioca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ulisses Carioca in the 43rd minute of the match. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

In the 50th minute Zé Carlos Barbosa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 52 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ricardinho Moraes. Abel Carballo kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. In the 56th minute, Célio Matorin made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-3. 59 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Célio Matorin came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 61 played minutes MarquinhosEC got a freekick which was hit by Guto de Toledo. When the match had gone on for 65 minutes, Ricardinho Moraes took a quick shot and it went in 2-4 without a chance for Benito Sanz to make any attempt to save it. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when MarquinhosEC's Zé Carlos Barbosa in the 71st minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Benito Sanz was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Costa Rica through an amazing save. If Ricardinho Moraes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 74 minutes, Eliseo Noboa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the MarquinhosEC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Eliseo Noboa kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. In the 78th minute MarquinhosEC were awarded a corner. Alfredo Loyola went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Alfredo Loyola almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz did a great save. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ulisses Carioca in the 84th minute of play. Clemente Varela made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aaron Alcocer in the 86th minute of play. In the 90th minute Ulisses Carioca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zé Carlos Barbosa, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. In the 95th minute, Marco Boldrini hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. MarquinhosEC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
