But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Taisto Pentsinen in the 38th minute of the match. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Valdemar Kuoppala made the kick off in the second half. After 51 minutes, Taisto Pentsinen made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. Ecuador's Julio Vera tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After 53 played minutes Manchester United FC got a freekick which was hit by Gary Neville. After having played for 82 minutes, Taisto Pentsinen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Manchester United FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Taisto Pentsinen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 84th minute of play forced Manchester United FC's goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Felix Montenegro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valdemar Kuoppala, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edwin van der Sar having to interfere. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Manchester United FC throughout the match.
