The supporters of Ecuador booed when Inter de Chillán was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristián Duguid didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. The Inter de Chillán fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Basilio Dragicevic should have stopped the shot. Luis Andino scored 0-3 in the 29th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Basilio Dragicevic, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 36th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Basilio Dragicevic saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 37th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Basilio Dragicevic tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 43rdth minute of the game Cristian Sancho who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Inter de Chillán's Basilio Dragicevic was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Basilio Dragicevic didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Basilio Dragicevic made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 46th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Francisco Lacunza in the 47th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 79th minute, Luis Andino fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Basilio Dragicevic breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juan Luis Alfaro in the 90th minute of play. After 93 minutes, Cristián Duguid mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Inter de Chillán and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. Basilio Dragicevic was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Daniel Zorita. Cristián Duguid hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. 96 minutes in the game Daniel Zorita after having made a beautiful turn got a great opportunity to score and fired away a shot that went just to the left past a relieved Basilio Dragicevic. A very good opportunity. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
