Tedj Boudiaf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. Abdelkader El-Hadi might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jonathan Ferrant. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Abdelkader El-Hadi ran back to his position shaking his head. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mouloud Djebar in the 19th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Patricio Costa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rachid Benida breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rachid Bellemou Messaoud during the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Patricio Costa kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Rachid Benida. That made the score 0-2 in the 89 minute of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Venezuela walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
