In the 19th match minute, Mexico was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luca Rouco to maneuver through the defense. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eero Uusipaavalniemi, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Lautaro Mancebo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edwin van der Sar having to interfere. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eero Uusipaavalniemi in the 40th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Taisto Pentsinen in the 46th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dante Lacasa saved Mexico from getting behind. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joel Gaona to strike the kick off in the second half. Edwin van der Sar didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. There was no doubt that Mexico were the better team. Mexico's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
