Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from John-Paul Whittingham, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Jonathan Venegas kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Dean Ashton's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Ferrant was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. Guillermo Mariano made in the 24th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Tomas Illescas immediately put the ball in play. After some careless play in the Merton Albion FC defense, Patricio Costa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Laurence Barraclough. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dean Ashton in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonathan Ferrant saved Venezuela from getting behind. Jonathan Ferrant made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Dean Ashton sent off a good shot on target. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dean Ashton got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, John-Paul Whittingham managed to get in a good position for a shot. Merton Albion FC's supporters rose to their feet, but John-Paul Whittingham was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Guillermo Mariano made in the 46th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Tomas Illescas however managed to control. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tomas Illescas made a kick off. After 52 minutes of play, Merton Albion FC's Dean Ashton made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jonathan Ferrant was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a little luck, Merton Albion FC's Laurence Barraclough got control of the ball when Tomas Illescas tried to sneak it across the goal line. Martyn Haines struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Merton Albion FC. Patricio Costa kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John-Paul Whittingham in the 66th minute of the match. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Camilo Gaos hit a great ball. After having played for 68 minutes, John-Paul Whittingham managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Merton Albion FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but John-Paul Whittingham was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 72nd minute, Tomas Illescas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Tomas Illescass short, quick shot in the 73rdth minute got Laurence Barraclough to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Slawomir Cieliczka hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, John-Paul Whittingham kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. Laurence Barraclough made a fantastic save in the 81st minute, when Tomas Illescas sent off a good shot on target. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John-Paul Whittingham in the 82nd minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Patricio Costa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. In the 89th minute Dean Ashton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 94th minute, Patricio Costa reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Laurence Barraclough. The goal made the score 4-2.
