In the 41st minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Ecuador's Luis Andino to fire away a dangerous shot which Elias Urdaspal despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. In the 52nd minute, Jean-Baptiste Boulebda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Larkins Potter might have been able to make a better finish in the 55th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Larkins Potter ran back to his position shaking his head. 63 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Cheb El-Hadi was slow to take the kick. During this time Wara's players had a chance to rest. Camilo Rojas made a great header on Wara's corner, it was just that Ecuador's Julio Vera managed to reach the ball for a save. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
