Maximiliano Escribano blasted a shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Björn Vanek having to make a save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Maximiliano Escribano got free with Björn Vanek in the 7th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to MEXICO getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Salvador Tibalt hit a great ball. 10 minutes into the match, MEXICO's goalkeeper Björn Vanek had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Maximiliano Escribano. Joaquin Gayoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gaston Rosio in the 11th minute of play. After 13th play minutes Gaston Rosio shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Joaquin Gayoso and just under the crossbar into goal. With 17 minutes on the clock, Camilo Covarrubias commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. 16 minutes into the game, one of Uruguay:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 18th minute, Honorato Gaitan ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Joaquin Gayoso was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. 24 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Gaston Rosio came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. MEXICO's Björn Vanek proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save MEXICO from getting a goal against them. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Geronimo Eladio in the 27th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Gaston Rosio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joaquin Gayoso was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. Geronimo Eladio hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. If Maximiliano Escribano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in MEXICO's zone, Francisco Seco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Björn Vanek came out of the goal and Francisco Seco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alfredo Loramendi kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gaston Rosio was the one to do the kick off. Camilo Franco's late challenge caught a MEXICO's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Camilo Franco helped the player get up and apologised. In the 54th match minute, Uruguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Franco to maneuver through the defense. Gaston Rosio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 56th minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. Joaquin Gayoso didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 65th minute, which inside left pole to 0-5. Francisco Seco kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. In the 70th match minute, MEXICO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jacobo Gutierrez to maneuver through the defense. In the 71st match minute, Uruguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Franco to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Uruguay's Bruno Beldad got a free kick in the 73rd minute. When Honorato Gaitan came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the MEXICO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Honorato Gaitan couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Uruguay booed when MEXICO was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Americo Jon didn't get a good kick on the ball. With an all-out effort, MEXICO's Joaquin Gayoso threw himself towards the right post 84 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Geronimo Eladio, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to save Uruguay from getting a goal against them. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Geronimo Eladio in the 91st minute of play. In the 92nd minute, Maximiliano Escribano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Chants of MEXICO echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Uruguay had held the ball for most of the match.
