Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Calaflores FC. getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Dionisio Zubizarreta hit a great ball. Jorge Martin hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. In the 20th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Víctor Valdés saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Víctor Valdés showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 24th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho's late challenge caught a Calaflores FC.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cristian Sancho helped the player get up and apologised. With his leg Julio Vera managed to avoid a goal in the 35thth minute, when Calaflores FC.'s Coronel Paredes fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Víctor Valdés took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Calaflores FC.'s Víctor Valdés played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 40th minute of play. In the 43rd minute, Cristian Sancho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Conrado Montero hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Dionisio Zubizarreta in the 51st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Calaflores FC.'s Víctor Valdés played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 55th minute of play. In the 62nd minute Gaskon Rubio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Coronel Paredes, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. 71 minutes into the match, Calaflores FC.'s goalkeeper Víctor Valdés had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Agustín Saelices. The crowd rose to their feet as Daniel Zorita kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Víctor Valdés. That made the score 0-1 in the 73 minute of play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Coronel Paredes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 81st minute of play. After 89 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ecuador! Julio Vera had in the 90thth minute some difficulties stopping Dionisio Zubizarreta's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Calaflores FC. had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
