But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Erling Franks couldn't finish the play. After having played for 13 minutes, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Illescas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 15th minute Erling Franks shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of 20 DE SETEMBRO booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alex Chicote didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 21stth minute of the game Erling Franks who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alex Chicote during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. It was Emílio Diniz who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Franck Kessié almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant did a great save. Erling Franks fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. In the 36th minute, Erivaldo Antunes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Erling Franks sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erling Franks, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 46 minutes into the match, Iztal Marisancena had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Iztal Marisancena was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Erling Franks made the kick off in the second half. 20 DE SETEMBRO were awarded a corner in the 54th minute after Venezuela's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. When the match clock showed 65 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Erling Franks sped through Venezuela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 72nd minute of the game. One of Venezuela:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of 20 DE SETEMBRO:s goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Erling Franks in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonathan Ferrant saved Venezuela from getting behind. After 80 minutes, Erling Franks made it 5-0 with a short kick to the right side. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 20 DE SETEMBRO made a substitution. José Vítor Alves replaced Kléber Gaúcho.
