Camilo Salvidor tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 27th minute of play forced Menchu FC's goalkeeper Camilo Salvidor to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Gabriele Batistuta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Camilo Salvidor made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 61st minute. Thanks to some nice moves Lautaro Mancebo could shoot a difficult shot in the 63rd minute, which Camilo Salvidor however easily saved by the left post. Camilo Salvidor made a fantastic save in the 66th minute, when Alberto Tafalla sent off a good shot on target. 68 minutes into the match, Joel Gaona notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Menchu FC's Camilo Salvidor. Camilo Salvidor was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Menchu FC's Primitivo Rocendo was substituted for Uriel Gorri. Arturo Roderigo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alberto Tafalla struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Camilo Salvidor didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Mexico had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
